Samhain blessings of water, ancestors, yew, toad and crow

Writer's picture: Kate DineenKate Dineen

2nd November a gathering at a source of the Avon celebrating Samhain together, a vibrant mix of Christian clergy, Robert MacNaughton councillor of Calne, Dr Olivia Chapple High Sheriff for Wiltshire & Swindon, Druids, Pagans, activists and celebrants.

We created our sacred circle and then I led a meditation connecting us with our ancestors - our families as well as the ancients who used to live, hunt and pray by the waters of this land.

Everyone spoke from the heart profoundly deep wisdom about their connection with water and we joined in celebrating the sacredness of earth and all of life. Water gives us life and connects us no matter our politics or spiritual outlook or path in life. Water is ancient and carries the memory of all that has ever been here on earth. Water is sentient and reflects back to humanity the state of our relationship with nature. Water is animated by spirit, by God, by Goddess, by the source of all creation, by the memories of our ancestors.

Our waters collected from our local streams and imbued with our collective prayers being offered to Yew who's everlasting and teaches us about the continuity of life, death and rebirth in earth lore.

Co-created flower offering of gratitude with toad, crow, hagstone and heart, honouring the ancient wisdom-keepers of this land: the crones, witches, shamans of old who understood how to weave energy and stay in relationship with mother nature.
